Architecture can sometimes feel like an open book, where anything is possible. But other times, we’re constrained by limitations like budget, regulations, or, in this case, a super awkwardly shaped lot. The designer of this ingenious 35m² home embraced the challenge, and the result is nothing short of remarkable.
Inspired by years of living aboard a boat, Pirates Rest draws heavily on nautical design elements, making it a truly unique home. The unusual shape of the lot dictated much of the design, resulting in a host of fascinating and unexpected features.
Working within constraints often sparks innovation, and that’s certainly the case here. The home is packed with fun, clever ideas that showcase just how creative design can be when pushed to its limits. If you’re looking for inspiration for a compact, cleverly designed home, this one is sure to deliver!
Until Scott retires and is able to enjoy his home full time, he graciously shares his space on AirBnB to enable others to experience small space seaside living at the Pirates Rest. You can book your stay here: https://www.airbnb.co.nz/rooms/46645562

Scott has created such a stunning home here. I love the theme of the place and how well it ties in with the beach vibes. Working within the confines of this small section has encouraged some great design too! We hope you enjoy the tour. With Love, Bryce & Rasa
❤
Love the place for it’s size. But also ayyy the Endless Summer poster!
So nicely done. Really impressed by this one, Scott is so creative.
Wow,we’ve got to visit your beautiful country!
The scenery is spectacular! The tint was very
nice too!😊
I want to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for hearing and answering my prayers, thank You, Lord! May the Holy Spirit continue to guide us in sharing Your unconditional love. On another note, trusting the process really does bring great rewards. Working with Melissa Jonas Richard has positively impacted my financial journey, and her advice has helped me grow. If you’re considering a change, don’t hesitate and stay disciplined it could be just the opportunity you’ve been looking for!
How far from edge of your property you can build a house? In my country it is 3m if there are no windows on the wall and 4m if there is entrance or window on wall
NO NO NO AIRBNB’S !!!! THEY MAKE AWFUL NEIGHBORS !!!! GET A REAL JOB
Love this and such a big fan of the channel! Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations of tiny house builders in Victoria or if there’s a list of great TH builders anywhere? thanks 🙂
nice, should talk to his mom and build for both a connecting shed between original building and his to put in an additional big fridge, batteries and pantry to enhance autonomy when SHTF, living costs are going up, buying bulk and having perishables worth a month and non perishables for three is a must in todays world…also there is more room for solar panels…
It looks like the big house had a baby
Very cool tiny home. TV seems mounted too high. But where can the train layout go! Lots of Aussies have model train layouts? I guess those don’t go well with tiny homes. I really need to build a phone shelf in my bathrooms! I never know where to sit it! LOL
