Couple Builds Zero Debt Tiny House to Escape High Rent in the City

Laura and Rory spent one whole year building their tiny home in Vancouver, British Columbia, and it is one of the most well-thought spaces we’ve seen yet! Their barn shaped roofline expands the interior living space without compromising aesthetic. Other features include a storage staircase, full shower, compost toilet, full range, concrete countertop, and much more!

Vancouver’s housing market has skyrocketed in recent years, causing residents to look into alternatives. Laura and Rory decided to design and build a tiny house as an affordable alternative to purchasing a standard home in the city.

After advertising on Craigslist, Laura and Rory found what they thought was the perfect parking spot in Vancouver. They moved in, but before long they received a “tiny house eviction.” A neighbor complained, and there seemed to be no easy solution. He wanted the tiny house gone, and Laura and Rory were forced to tow their tiny home away.

Luckily, everything worked out for the best for Laura and Rory. They found a new parking spot, located just south of downtown Vancouver. The location is private and surrounded by a blueberry farm. They have an electrical and water hookup from the property’s main house. In return, they pay a small rental fee for the parking space.

Laura and Rory share tips for finding parking and photos of their tiny home on our website. Full story here: http://wp.me/p656lU-3eu

  1. Beautiful tiny home. Since this was 4 years ago, I would love an update…are they still there? What have they learned, etc.?

  2. What about escaping if there is a fire ? For. The loft I find this an issue in a lot of tiny houses

  3. That was so beautiful and very spacious.I didn’t see a refridgerator and since they don’t utiliza much electricity,is the fridge run on propane?

  4. I love the toilet just like an outdoor one. They are so comfortable. I have IBS and those toilets work great.
I love it I wish you all the happiness in the world.

  5. Thanks for letting the guy talk. Sometimes the woman just takes over like she’s the Queen of the World. I thought that was going to happen this time because this chick feels so bossy.

  6. It’s actually a very well written and comprehensive book https://www.youtube.com/post/UgkxhgbP-6hUnXu_QRaoHgLztgsI0YF3HqR0 . I wanted to pair this with an updated book on local codes to start planning a post-retirement dream shop. I think I have just about everything I need between the two. The extra plans available for purchase towards the end are priced almost as much as full home plans, not little sheds however.

  7. I luv the tiny home! Everything was taken into consideration for owners’ specific wants and needs, it seems. That little washer couldn’t have a better space for it. The surrounding area is great, too, providing no pesticides are being used in the farmland area of the tiny home.
