VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
In this tour, viewers will step inside a custom-built tiny house in Bellingham, Washington—designed with intention, sustainability, and comfort in mind. Built by Nate and Luis Corilo of Southpaw Trading Co., this home reflects the journey of downsizing from a Seattle studio to a fully functional tiny home for two plus their dog, Stow.
This video highlights the realities of downsizing from a traditional apartment or home into tiny house living—showcasing how smart design choices can provide comfort, affordability, and long-term sustainability.
Inside This Tiny House Tour:
– Living Room Focused Layout – A full-size couch, cozy wood stove for Pacific Northwest winters, and intentional storage solutions.
– Full Kitchen for Foodies – 4-burner gas stove, full-size oven, deep sink, Breville coffee bar, custom pantry, and clever use of every drawer.
– Bathroom & Laundry – Walk-in shower, flush toilet connected to septic, sink storage, and a 2-in-1 washer/dryer combo for daily life with pets.
– Lofted Bedroom with Storage – Custom drawers, queen bed, smart lighting, and design that prioritizes comfort while maintaining a spacious main floor.
– Garden & Homestead Touches – Raised beds, chickens for fresh eggs, composting, and plans for a greenhouse—all rooted in sustainable living.
– Off-Grid Prep – Backup wood stove for frequent power outages, propane system for hot water, and rainwater catchment integrated into the home design.
Why This Story Matters for Downsizers
The builders originally sought to escape the competitive housing market and find stability outside of renting. Downsizing provided:
– Lower costs compared to urban apartments and traditional mortgages.
– More control over utilities and sustainability with composting, rain catchment, and a wood stove.
– A homestead lifestyle that blends food gardening, chickens, and outdoor living with modern comforts.
Key Takeaways for Future Tiny Homeowners
– Downsizing doesn’t mean giving up function—this home proves you can have a full kitchen, laundry, and comfortable living space in under 300 sq ft.
– Design for daily life: prioritize the rooms you’ll use most (living room and kitchen in this case).
– Plan for sustainability: composting, rainwater, and a backup heating source make tiny living resilient.
– Think long-term: the couple views this tiny home as a chapter—building equity, saving money, and eventually creating their forever home on the property.
– If you’re looking to downsize, cut housing costs, or find freedom outside the traditional housing market, this tour is packed with inspiration.

Some great design ideas here. I love that it feels open, not cramped, and the color palette is soothing to the eyes.
Very nice home! Wondering why the wood stove is so high off the floor? Heat rises, so it seems like they’d have a cold floor area?
LOVE the layout and grounds and everything!!!! BUT wow, had to watch this on mute because that voice was sooooooo grating. Sorry to be mean.
Clear and straight to the point.
Can I contact this builder in Seattle? I love their tiny home and yard design.
Beautiful dog!!!!!! Lovely home!!!!!
Beautiful! I love everything about it. The fire pit / outside seating in the garden area is a great idea.
I know they said no kids but a house without kids feels empty….they bring so much joy, laughter, and memories..It does not compare to a dog. Maybe they will change their mind but alot of the new generation does not want kids or inconvenience although it is so rewarding and the growth the comes from it is unmatched.
You didn’t have to escape anything, if you have your own land. What is wrong with you?
Great video, thanks for sharing!
This made my brain happy.
This should be trending.
Nice crib. I like pacific northwest too, preferably in a high firewatcher tower one day!
Definitely needs a handrail with those stairs. I like the single level bedroom better and a loft for storage…just my preference at 65 yo.
Sounds to me you won’t be in a tiny home long. 😂 its amazing with the garden. I have a garden and a small home and never have enough room for my harvest. My table is always full of produce.
This is cute. Are you planning to have children?
Well done! 🙌 Proud of both of you! ❤ Cookies for Stowe 🍪🍪🍪
Call him your boyfriend, not partner. Great land setup.
