VIDEO DESCRIPTION:

Looking for adventure? Ready to explore the world while staying off-grid for weeks at a time? Check out Abe and Mel’s custom DIY Expedition Truck build! In this video, they take viewers on a detailed tour of their off-road expedition vehicle, designed for long-term travel, full-time living, and extreme off-grid adventures. With years of experience building and customizing rigs for their nomadic lifestyle, Abe and Mel showcase everything that makes their expedition truck the ultimate overlanding rig.

Exterior Upgrades:
Abe and Mel made significant upgrades to the exterior of their truck, starting with a custom 14ft box mounted to the chassis. Equipped with 35-inch off-road tires for better clearance and a unique Subaru Autumn Green paint job, the truck boasts a rugged aesthetic. They added a roof rack for extra storage, a Nighlight light bar for nighttime driving, and mounted All Top traction boards for off-road support. Their retractable glow-in-the-dark Torque Lift steps make entering and exiting the truck easy, regardless of the terrain. One feature they knew they needed for extended off-grid stays was a dedicated trash storage area, allowing them to stay off-grid for up to 4 weeks.

Off-Grid Power & Solar Setup:
The rig is equipped with 1000 watts of solar power, courtesy of Signature Solar, ensuring Abe and Mel stay powered no matter where they go. The rooftop system includes solar panels, a Nomadic Cooling ac a WeBoost for better connectivity, and Starlink for internet access. Inside, their complete electrical system features 2 400-amp-hour server rack batteries and a 3000-watt inverter, allowing them to run everything from induction cooktops to their air conditioner and microwave. They can monitor all aspects of their power usage, ensuring the rig is perfectly suited for long-term, off-grid living.

Interior Design:
Step inside Abe and Mel’s minimalist, rustic tiny home on wheels! Inspired by Norwegian design, the interior features dark wood finishes and cozy lighting, creating a warm atmosphere. Large Overland windows let in ample natural light, complementing the sleek, modern aesthetic. The kitchen includes an induction stovetop, a large Norcold 8-cubic-foot fridge, and plenty of storage space. They also opted for a sleek black granite sink, which fits perfectly with the overall design. Their 42-gallon water tank, along with a hydronic water heating system, ensures hot water is always available for both the kitchen and shower.

Living & Dining Area:
Abe and Mel prioritize comfort in their living area, which features a custom-built storage space underneath a 49-inch couch. They added an RV table mount that can transform into a dining table, workspace, or gaming area. Their art wall showcases photos from their travels, blending seamlessly with the wood, black, and gray tones seen throughout the truck. For additional workspace, they installed a pop-up desk area, perfect for remote work on the road.

Bathroom & Shower:
This is Abe and Mel’s first rig with a full shower setup, and they’ve made it both functional and stylish. The wet bath features a custom composting toilet from Ogo, complete with venting, and a protective cover for the toilet during showers. The bathroom is compact but fully functional, perfectly suited for off-grid living.

Bedroom & Garage:
The north-to-south bed configuration allows for extra storage space beneath the bed. Their Zinus queen-size mattress is a staple from their previous builds, and the custom barnwood wall mimics the shingles of old Norwegian churches. An installed Nomadic air conditioner keeps the space cool, while barnwood and black shiplap finishes create a cozy atmosphere. The under-bed garage houses motorcycles, one of the primary reasons they upgraded to a larger vehicle. Easy to load and unload, these motorcycles allow them to explore new places with ease.

Staying Fit on the Road:
Abe and Mel love staying active, so they included a pull-up bar, an adjustable bench, and power block dumbbells for their workouts. Their compact workout area allows them to keep up with their fitness routine, even while living off the grid.
