Amazing VANLIFE Artist is Turning Wheels, Turning Wood & Changing Lives!

This is a van-life story unlike anything you’ve seen before. Floyd is a man, living and traveling in a small van while on a huge mission to put a smile on peoples faces.

Currently, he is traveling all over New Zealand in a spectacular van that he has built out for both his work and travels. The van is compact yet fully featured and filled with incredible wood-craft and carvings which absolutely make his van stand out from the rest.

Floyd’s van is fitted out with his wood turning tools, which he uses while he travels to craft beautiful art peaces, that he then leaves hidden in special places for strangers to find, all with the purpose of helping to brighten someone’s day while also raising money for a mental health charity, Gumboot Friday, a New Zealand charity that helps to provide free counselling for youth. You can find a link to this charity here: https://www.gumbootfriday.org.nz/

Beyond his incredible wood turning work, we have actually featured Floyd’s incredible handiwork in the past, when we visited his sister, Kate’s tiny home. You can see the tour of that home here: https://youtu.be/SVKlOyLHJEM

We hope you enjoy meeting Floyd and touring his fantastic van. You can follow Floyd’s van life adventures via his instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_floyds.woods_/

  1. Floyd is a man with a huge heart who is on a really beautiful mission. We are so happy to be able to share his story and his home on wheels with you. We hope you enjoy this tour! Thanks for watching and supporting our channel! With Love, Bryce & Rasa

  2. He should double his panel area, double his Ah in the battery, and switch to LiFePO4. Then he’d be turning wood in the most amazing places. Also wire the alternator to the house bank so it can be idled while turning might be enough. Modern alternators do well over 1kW 🙂 probably even in a 98 transit.

  3. This young man is a pure gem. He epitomizes humanity at it’s basic core of greatness. And he seems in touch with his feelings. Loved meeting this guy. He is special (and talented) and handsome ha.

  4. We have literally just had a tragic loss in our family. This charity project hits home. I have no words for how important this message is and how heart-warming his approach to the issue is. Wow.

  5. His van is truly a work of art with his woodworking skills. I also love how he is making pieces to leave randomly. It’s always nice to see good people being brought to the forefront of stories.

  6. I loved this video!
I was forced into homelessness and after 9 months I ended up getting a van eventually. I felt safer as a female alone. I went on a few much needed adventures and plan on doing more.
At the moment I am stuck with what to do work wise just because of the upheaval I experienced but this is truely inspiring.
I ended up doing a few stints in Showgrounds with a lot of grey nomads travelling Australia. I agree with you that it’s nice to do that occasionally to get some piece of mind with not finding places to stay. It was nice to just have amenities and feel safe here and there.
I love what you are doing with giving your woodwork pieces away. You are humble and I can tell you feel blessed.

  7. So special! A modern day prophet for the principles of humanity. and just focusing on humans getting along with other humans…
