I Quit the Corporate Grind for a Tiny House in the Woods

Grant left suburban Orange County and corporate burnout behind to reset his life in the mountains. This tiny house in Mount Laguna’s Tiny House Block became more than a place to live — it became space to decompress, reconnect with nature, and rediscover himself.

From the custom-built sofa couch and two lofts to surprisingly generous storage, this home proved that tiny living can feel comfortable, social, and intentional. With rent at $1,400 plus low utilities, the flexibility and simplicity played a huge role in his reset. Surrounded by nature and a tight-knit community, Grant found something he never had in the suburbs: real connection. This chapter wasn’t meant to last forever, but it gave him exactly what he needed — clarity, independence, and a reminder that sometimes less space creates more room for life.

  1. Very impressive young man, and I LOVE THE CATS!!! He has a wonderful attitude and is right on point about “community.” That’s the emerging next step for humanity… as we rid ourselves of the tyranny of the money gods and move towards true unity (yes, that means without central goverments, politicians, and so-called leaders.
I wish this young mand and his girlfriend a happy, healthy, and gratifying life… of their chosing!

  2. I’d love to live in that space. Love the double lofts and high-utility design. That L-shaped couch looks/seems really massive and useful for the space. Also love the cats!! So cute!

  3. He hit the nail on the head “didnt want to be in my 60s and never lived in the mountains!” So smart. I’m 56 and my husband is 57 and we are trying to figure out if we want to retire in the mountains or the ocean! He is so smart to do this while he’s young and had the opportunity to do it!

  4. Sounds like it was nice to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a mobile home to “experience a simple life”
I’m glad you could dip your toe into what it felt like to live in poverty for the experience.

  5. A unique experience for him before he starts his new life. Nature is a huge draw as well as a close, personal community. It’s nice to know the person living tiny and why they chose it and that there are rentals now, whereas a few years ago you could only buy a tiny home. Nice young man. Thanks for the tour!❤
